For a fun map making idea, try a cork world map. This video from Parson Woodworking shows how making to make a map of the world using cork.   Cork world maps are easy to make and easy to mount on a wall or another surface.

The instructions are fairly simple: all you need is a world map stencil, some plywood, corkboard, and an exacto knife. Cut out the shape of the world using the exacto knife and trace it on the corkboard.

Mount a ¼-inch piece of the cork to a 1/8-inch piece of plywood. Depending on how large you want to make the map or where you are putting it will determine how big your world map stencil is, as well as how much cork and plywood you need. The cork can be attached to the wall or another surface using silicone adhesive.

Once the stencil is in place you can cut out the shape of the world map, remove the stencil, and voila! You have your new and improved world map to track all of your adventures around the globe. Using cork you can easily track where you’ve been, where you are, and where you want to head next with pushpins.  Or you can attach pictures, postcards, or other mementos to your new cork map to commemorate special locations.
